Australian-born, Los Angeles-based designer Richard Tyler honed his superb tailoring skills with a Savile Row-trained tailor starting at age 16. Known for his high-powered, glamorous pieces and eye-catching detailing, Tyler became a designer to the rock stars in the 70s, dressing the likes of Elton John, Cher, and Diana Ross. In 1987, he launched his namesake label and during the 90s dabbled in designing for other fashion houses—first Anne Klein, then Byblos. In 1994, he was awarded the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year.
